Cotal Will hold 50th congress in Torremolinos in the framework of Euroal 2008

Latin American travel agents are in a state of expectation regarding the development of the deceleration being experienced by North American and European economies. The strength of the euro against North American currency places the market and the holiday destinations of the Caribbean, Central and South America in a situation of competitive advantage, which, however, could decrease if the “crisis” continues in the long term.

The behavior of North American markets, the primary consumer of Latin American touristic destinations, as well as those of Europe, which is the main international issuer of long-distance tourism and in which a strong promotional stake is being made, will be one of the main topics of study of the 50th Congreso de la Confederacion de Organizaciones Turisticas de America Latina (COTAL).

The business organization will hold its professional meeting in the Congress Palace of Torremolinos (next May) for the third consecutive year, within the programmed activities of the 3rd Tourism, Art and Culture Fair of Latin America and Europe, ‘EUROAL.’

The president and secretary general of COTAL announced the congress at the recent ITB Berlin. After celebrating its 50th anniversary at the Touristic Fair of the Americas (ABAV-Brasil), COTAL will be present from May 29th to June 1st at “EUROAL 2008,” with the objective of analyzing the current evolution of the touristic market with its Spanish and European colleagues.

Since 2006 the touristic fair, organized by the Municipality and the Congress Palace of Torremolinos, has been a reference in the exchange of professional information and experiences between European and Latin American touristic operators as a way of strengthening the exchange of passenger flow between both continents.

Each year, to support the work of participants, EUROAL proposes a program of professional technical symposia, conferences, and lectures whose conclusions are used to outline a book of recommendations aimed not only at tour operators and travel agents, but also at the authorities and institutions of each country.

In this 2008 edition, aside from the analysis of the foreseeable impact of the economic deceleration in the touristic marketing of Latin American destinations, two of the main topics that the study sessions will focus on will be the “All-Inclusive formula and its impact on touristic development” and “Touristic Communication in Times of Crisis.”

Also included in the program will be the theme proposed by the World Tourism Organization, an international organization that has participated in the organization of the touristic fair of Torremolinos since 2007, and which supervises the master conference of the work sessions.
