Wine Resort opens new hotel in Neuquen

Valle Perdido Wine Resort, located in the province of Neuquen in the new wine producing region of the Argentine Patagonia. Associated with the prestigious international chain, Small Luxury Hotels of the World, it was selected by Kiwi Collection to be included among those offering luxury hotels for trips for business or pleasure.

Erupting volcano to be transformed into tourist attraction

The National Tourism Service (Sernatur) announced that the eruption of the Chaiten volcano in the south of Chile will be taken advantage of to transform its surroundings into a tourist attraction. The Chaiten volcano began to erupt last May 2 and its ashes completely covered the Chaiten region, located only 10 km away.  Sernatur thinks that this natural phenomenon could be exploited as an attraction for those visitors who are interested in it.

Pluna to fly to Madrid with a shared code with Iberia

As of September 9, Pluna will suspend the route to Madrid and instead they made a “shared code” agreement with Iberia by which both companies will be able to market the regional and intercontinental flights of the other party under their respective codes. Sources at Pluna said that “under the current circumstances it is not possible to continue flying with their own aircraft” because it will generate losses of US$ 2 million per month. “Flying with Iberia will generate income” and enable Pluna to “focus on regional destinations,” they added.

Taca announces routes with Embraer aircraft

As of October 15, TACA will begin to operate the San Jose, Costa Rica; Havana, Cuba; and Panama routes with the first Embraer E190 which will enter its fleet on August 29. In addition, on November 15 it will operate routes between Guatemala, El Salvador and Managua; destination.  Flights will begin between San Pedro Sula, San Jose and Guatemala as of December 15.

Copa Airlines modifies charges for excess luggage

Copa Airlines announced that it will begin a new charging system for excess luggage for passengers who purchase their tickets for flights they will take on or after September 1. The same fee will be charged for excess luggage to and from all destinations, excluding Brasil and the United States. Under the new system, the weight and maximum size allowed per item free of charge between Central America, South America and the Caribbean is 23 kg and 62 lineal inches.

Construction of Site Museum in Huaca Rajada-Sipan complex in Lambayeque completed

The movements of a feline in full combat, artistically captured in a mask of golden copper, will welcome tourists visiting the Site Museum located at the Huaca Rajada-Sipan archaeological complex. The construction included the latest technology which will provide the necessary conditions for the security and preservation of the valuable ornaments, jewels, emblems and a range of items discovered in tomb 14.

Delta Air Lines to fly to Cancun

Delta Air Lines announced the beginning of operations of its non-stop flight between Nashville, Tennessee and Cancun, Quintana Roo as of next December 20.  Also for December, the multinational announced new flights from New York to Buenos Aires, Argentina and Bogota, Colombia, and from Atlanta to Santiago, Dominican Republic.

Royal Caribbean withdraws Puerto de Progreso from its program for next season

Authorities from the state of Merida confirmed that the company Royal Caribbean decided to withdraw Puerto de Progreso from its cruise program for the December 2008 to March 2009 season. In a press conference, the State Secretary of Tourism explained that this is due to the lack of security available to handle the 24 embarkations that they had programmed for Progreso and the increase in fuel prices.

Restoration of Baconao aquarium facilities in Santiago de Cuba

The facilities of the Baconao aquarium in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba were restored after undergoing repairs to eliminate damages caused by meteorological phenomena. The aquarium offers dolphin and sea lion shows, as well as exhibitions of more than 30 species, many of which were captured from the Caribbean environment. Hotels, restaurants, cafeterias and children’s play areas are included in the recreational options in a natural environment where the sea and mountains are predominant elements.

Delta to reduce flights between New York and Dominican cities

Delta Air Lines announced that in September it will suspend its flights between New York and the Dominican cities of Santo Domingo and Santiago for three months. Said flights will be resumed on December 13 with a weekly, instead of daily, frequency. According to Delta, these flights will complement the current direct service offered between the international airport of Hartsfield-Jackson, Atlanta and the airports of Santo Domingo, Punta Cana and Puerto Plata.
