300 hotels under construction throughout the country

At present, there are more than 300 hotels under construction involving investments of US$ 925 million.  These investments in touristic infrastructure are growing together with a higher influx of foreign visitors to the country, as well as a 30% increase in total tourists expenditures which in 2007 added up to US$ 4.15 billion. The most important hotel projects are those of the Hilton, Starwood, Marriott and Hyatt chains.

Hilton Buenos Aires presents personalized websites

Hilton Buenos Aires presented the POG website system which is available in all of the hotels of the chain.  Every event with rooms included qualifies for free access to a personalized web site.  In this way, detailed information about a certain event will be available to those invited to it through access to the site.  In addition, they will be able to reserve their rooms with the group’s special fares.

Aerolineas Argentinas and Austral cancel flights due to volcanic ash

Aerolineas Argentinas and Austral are maintaining the cancellation of flights to Trelew, Neuquen, Bahia Blanca and San Carlos de Bariloche due to the cloud of ashes coming from the Chilean volcano, Chaiten.  American Airlines and United Airlines have joined this measure, suspending 6 flights between the two of them to and from the United States.

LAN to double Salta-Buenos Aires flights

LAN announced that it will double its services on the Salta-Buenos Aires route, which will provide the province with a smooth connection to the Federal Capital.

Pluna receives IOSA certification

The airline was able to pass the remaining percentage of items in the IATA audit, thus completing the 100% necessary to achieve IOSA certification. This guarantees passengers that the airline will comply with the highest standards of the international aeronautics industry.

Sol Melia includes new hotels

Sol Melia signed two new projects which will enable it to include 2 establishments in the country:  the Jacuma Beach Resort in Rio Grande do Norte, and another in Brasilia. These initiatives demonstrate the expansion policy of the Mallorca hotelier which plans to include approximately 80 establishments between 2008 and 2010, giving special importance to European cities, North America, the Middle East and the Mediterranean basin.

Azul will begin operations in January 2009

The airline will begin operating next January under the name Azul Lineas Aereas Brasilenas with the first three of a total of 76 Embraer 195 airplanes which were ordered from the manufacturer. It will be the first Latin American airline to offer live television on individual screens by means of a satellite transmission system.

Immigration Control will now last only 10 seconds

This new system which verifies the Immigrations and Warrants databases in ten seconds will facilitate the work of the Department of Immigration and Naturalization (Digemin) during the arrival of the delegations coming to our country for the V ALC-UE Summit.

Jorge Chavez Airport has staff specialized in the handling of aircraft hijacking and hostage rescue

Members of the National Police's special tactics unit (SUAT, for its Spanish acronym) began operations in the Jorge Chavez international airport, completing the security plan that the country will offer the heads of state and other authorities arriving for the V ALC-UE Summit.

The New York Times highlights Peru’s coastline as ideal surf destination

The New York Times highlighted the Peruvian coastline as a privileged surfing destination. The article written by the journalist Julia Chaplin highlighted beaches such as Punta Rocas, Mancora, Los Organos, Chicama, and Lobitos, among others.  It also emphasized the increase of tourists attracted by the offer of good Peruvian waves.

Hotel Miramar to be inaugurated

The hotel Miramar (Lima) will open its doors in the first half of May in the building where the hotel Bruce in Miraflores used to operate.

Jose Joaquin de Olmedo airport will suspend flights

Due to runway repairs, flights of the Jose Joaquin de Olmedo Airport will be suspended for a period of 5 hours; only the terminal and other services will operate until the repairs are completed. This will be the second preventive maintenance intervention on the runway, with the aim of keeping it operational for aircraft take-off and landing.

Best Western shows interest in the country

The North American hotel chain Best Western, with 4,200 worldwide establishments, plans to expand in Colombia through its principal franchise in Mexico, which currently manages 81 hotels in eight countries.

Avianca inaugurates second frequency to New York

A new frequency on the Bogota-New York-Bogota route is available in reservation systems, travel agencies and the airline’s points of sale.  Avianca will have 12 flights available per week with the best schedules between the country’s capital and New York.  Hoping to serve the demand of business and tourism travelers between these two cities, the airline will begin its second flight frequency on the Bogota-New York-Bogota route this Friday.

Avior will continue operating Carupano-Caracas route

The authorities of the Jose Francisco Bermudez de Carupano airport and Avior personnel categorically dismissed claims that this transport company is considering closing its daily service between Carupano and Caracas. The explanatory statement was given in response to information rendered by Daniel Gonzalez, AD Member of Parliament, in front of the Legislative Council in Cumana, who stated last week that Avior would cease operating because of the low profitability in carrying out the route twice a day. The source indicated that on the contrary, we are once again operating the 9.30 a.m. and 4.40 p.m. schedules with destination to Caracas at just one rate.

Satellite touristic map, new tool for tourists

Tourists who visit the country will have access to a satellite touristic map available on the Internet through GPS to find their location and travel from one place to another.  The site offers the location and basic information about approximately 4,000 touristic companies such as hotels, restaurants, bars, shopping centers and car rentals, as well as all types of services and commerce.

Aeromexico will fly to Italy

Beginning July 25th, Aeromexico will offer direct flights between Rome and Mexico after two decades in which no airline has covered that route. Aeromexico will fly to the Federal District twice a week, with a stopover in Monterrey. This new route reflects the growing level of the bilateral relationship.
