in January and February |

continues to register very high
levels in Buenos Aires. According
to a report from Ente Turimso
of Buenos Aires, January’s
average reached 67% in all categories,
while in February levels were
even higher and reached an average
of 70%. |

this summer |
| Santiago and
its outskirts was the main touristic
destination for foreigners who
visited Chile this summer, representing
46.8% of preferred sites. In
second place were Valparaiso
and Viña del Mar. In
this 2008 season, 750,000 tourists
came from abroad, representing
an increase of 13.6% with respect
to the 2007 season. The obtained
earnings amounted to US$ 417
million with an increase of
11%. |

Vik will construct luxury hotel |
| Next summer the
Spanish chain Vik will open its
first luxury hotel in the framework
of a program of aggressive internationalization
which includes the purchase of
two establishments in Punta Cana,
Dominican Republic, and the construction
of another two in Punta del Este,
Uruguay. These luxurious boutique
hotels are directed at a public
with a high spending power, who
are prepared to pay more than
US$ 1,000 per night. The Chilean
hotel will be called Vik Bodega
and will be in Millahue, in the
VI Region. It will have only 22
rooms. |

Corpac, 11,244,571 domestic
and international passengers
moved through different airports
last year, Jorge Chavez of Lima
being the one which handled
the most movement with 7,119,270
passengers. This is two million

Tame announced
the beginning of regular flights
between Guayaquil and Manaus,
in the middle of the Brasilian
Amazon, on April 30th. The flights
will be on Wednesdays with eventual
chartered flights on Sundays.
Furthermore, the airline is
considering the possibility
of including Iquitos, in Peru,
in the Guayaquil-Manaus route,
also foreseeing beginning regular
flights to Lima as of April

January |
The Minister
of Commerce, Industry and Tourism
informed that in the first month
of 2008, 96,502 visitors of
other nationalities arrived
in Colombia, 6,697 more people
than in the same month of 2007. |

KLM Resumes
flights |
An official
source of KLM informed that
it will resume its flights to
Panama in March, after seven
years of suspended operations.
The AAC authorized KLM to offer
passenger, cargo and postal
air transport services. Operations
could begin in mid March with
direct flights on the Amsterdam-Panama-Amsterdam
route, with a frequency of three
days per week. |

COPA Offers
more flights |
The Civil Aviation
Authority authorized Copa Airlines
to begin the operation of a
new flight, Panama-El Salvador-Panama.
The airline hopes to “shortly”
put this route into action,
Copa informed. The new operation

Aeromexico
to Start Detroit-Monterrey Service
in April |
Aeromexico
on April 6 will begin nonstop
service between Detroit Metropolitan
Airport and Monterrey, Mexico,
with continuing service to Mexico
City. The flights will operate
three times per week aboard
Aeromexico’s Next Generation
Boeing 737 aircraft.

The changes
that have arisen in the leadership
of Cuba will not negatively

the island’s touristic
sector, stated the Deputy Minister
of Tourism. “The political
situation in the country is

resignation of power by Fidel
Castro, who was succeeded by
his brother, Raul. |

Livingston, which will begin operations

| In a Russian press
conference in which the Ambassador
of the Greater Antilles took part,
the Deputy Minister of the Island’s
portfolio predicted big possibilities
for negotiations that were already
underway, stimulated by his third
visit in three years to Moscow.
In the presence of dozens of journalists
gathered at the headquarters of
the news agency ITAR-TASS, the
Deputy Minister said that he considered
the hotel, extrahotel services
and nautical activities sectors
to have the greatest prospect.
