The government of Buenos Aires will strengthen promotion of tango abroad

The head of the Buenos Aires Government and the Minister of Culture and chairman of the Tourism Entity of the City announced the plan for participation in international festivals to continue strengthening and positioning tango abroad. The aim is to spread and coordinate the efforts and activities which make Buenos Aires a cultural destination to other countries.

LAN will have more flights to the interior of the country

LAN Argentina announced new flights between Buenos Aires and the cities of Neuquen and San Juan. In the first case, it will add two daily frequencies as of July 15th. The government of Neuquen announced that it is working on the specifications for the call for bids for new routes in order to have flights to the cities of Rincon de los Sauces and San Martin de los Andes. Flights to San Juan will begin in August with four frequencies per week.

Sur Lineas Aereas explores new routes
In order to increase connectivity between cities within the country, Sur Lineas Aereas presented its new plan of operations which covers the following initial destinations with charter flights: Ushuaia, Comodoro, Rivadavia, Rio Gallegos, Montevideo and El Calafate.
Celebrity will offer trips to Antarctica
For the first time, Celebrity will begin offering trips to Antarctica. The Celebrity Infinity, which holds 2,050 passengers, will operate two 14-night cruises from Buenos Aires. The first trip will depart on January 31st, 2010, and the second on February 14th.

LAN revaluates its routes in view of cost increases

In a scenario in which petroleum has become 50% of flight costs, and almost 60% for longer flights, Lan is evaluating the routes that it operates and predicts less growth in its operations, said the company’s executive vice president.

Pluna inaugurates routes to Rosario and Curitiba
Beginning in June, Pluna will fly to Rosario and Curitiba with routes which will be inaugurated with promotional fares for its Montevideo destinations.

Seeks to attract Iberia and Copa Airlines flights

The National Direction of Civil Aviation (DINAC) informed that Paraguay would be negotiating the entry of Iberia (Spain), Copa (Central America) and a third important Latin American airline into the country.

DGAC suspends AS flights

The General Direction of Civil Aviation (DGAC) once again suspended Aerolineas Sudamericanas’ (AS) aircraft. The airline’s president affirmed that the company will present a corresponding complaint since “it is an illegal and arbitrary measure.”

INC prepares comprehensive plan to reevaluate the Archaeological Complex of Kotos.

Huanuco´s INC (National Culture Institute) will prepare a comprehensive plan for the revaluation of the Archaeological Complex of Kotos. The head of the institution specified that this initiative has the aim of “revaluating” the complex due to its importance for the country.

Fetransa informed Inka Rail that it will proceed with an auction for the schedule it had requested, and will make the same announcement to Andean Railways on May 27th regarding the five schedules that it had asked for.
Inkaterra Titilaka Soft opening
Representatives of 10 of the country’s most important receptive tourism agencies inaugurated the new Inkaterra hotel on Lake Titicaca in a soft opening. Located about 30 minutes from Puno in Chacras, the project, among other things, seeks to reintegrate the former hotel on which it is constructed into the local landscape as well as into the community.
Accor will begin construction of three-star hotel
In the first quarter of 2009, the French hotel chain Accor, will begin the construction of a three-star Ibis brand hotel in Miraflores (Lima), announced the sales manager of Accor in Peru. The investment will be US$ 10 million.
New TAME route from Guayaquil to Ambato

TAME will fly from Guayaquil to Ambato to cover commercial sector demand for the capital of Tungurahua, as well as touristic demand for the city of Banos, a beach town which receives more than a million tourists per year. This route would also cover the touristic and commercial needs of Puyo, the capital of Pastaza, which is located 90 minutes away from Ambato.

New flight to New York

After receiving official approval from the American Department of Transportation, Delta Air Lines announced that as of August 19th it will make daily flights to New York. The new New York-Bogota flight complements the already existing flight to Colombia from the Hartsfield Jackson International Airport of Atlanta.

Easyfly begins operations between Medellin, Bogota and Armenia
Easyfly took the risk of beginning operations at a time when more than half a dozen of the world’s major league airlines had closed due to their inability to withstand increases. It flies from Bogota to Barrancabermeja, Armenia, Arauca, Ibague, Neiva, Yopal and Cartago; and from Medellin to Armenia and Bogota.

AeroMexico inaugurates route to Shanghai
AeroMexico announced its new route with two weekly frequencies to Shanghai, with which it will extend its coverage of the Asian continent.
US$ 10 million invested in the remodeling of Puerto de Colon
Panama is impatiently awaiting the visit of the Royal Caribbean cruise ship, which would dock at the Puerto de Colon 2000 within the next seven months, and will top off the country’s recent good experience regarding cruise ship tourism. To this end, it plans to improve the port’s infrastructures, which will be expanded with an investment of US$ 10 million.
TACA will operate direct flight to El Salvador
TACA announced that it will begin the operation of a daily direct flight between its hub in El Salvador and Panama City as of June 12th in order to offer a new service option to its clients.

Air Europa will open route between Madrid and Puerto Plata for the first time

This summer, Air Europa will begin a new route linking Madrid and Puerto Plata, announced the secretary of tourism after meeting with the chairman of the Globalia Group in Spain.

Air Dominicana ready to fly
The Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC) will grant certification authorizing Air Dominicana’s Boeing 737 airplane to fly after the plane has completed the 50 hours of required flight time.
