Aerosur to connect Tucuman with Madrid

Beginning in September, there will be flights between Tucuman- Santa Cruz- Miami and Tucuman- Santa Cruz- Madrid. These international flights from the province of Tucuman will be made possible after Alperovich signs an agreement with Aerosur.

GOL seeks to unite the companies, maintaining the GOL and Varig brands

GOL Lineas Aereas Inteligentes, the holding company of GOL Transportes Aereos S.A. (“GTA”) and VRG Lineas Aereas S.A. (“VRG”), submitted a request for authorization to the National Agency of Civil Aviation (ANAC) yesterday for the corporate restructuring of its subsidiaries GTA and VRG (“Reorganization”), in order to join them into one single airline. The acquisition of VRG by GTI S.A., a complete subsidiary of GOL, was approved by the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE, for its Portuguese acronym) on June 25th, 2008.

Peruvian candidates among the first 77 Wonders of the World

The 5 Peruvian candidates are ranked among the top 77 locations out of more than 380 international nominees in the contest organized by the New 7 Wonders Foundation to select the planet’s 7 natural wonders.  The first phase of the contest, in which internet users can vote for their favorites, will end on December 31st of this year, and then a special committee will select the 21 finalists from the 77 highest-ranking to enter the final competition in July 2010.

Yale waited 90 years to publish study on Machu Picchu artifacts

The University of Yale waited more than 90 years to publish the first scientific study on the artifacts from Machu Picchu, as North American scholars did not give importance to the archaeological heritage in their possession. Historian Teodoro Hampe Martinez commented that just recently in 2003 a study was published in relation to the controversial archaeological objects.

A Tourist Protection Network will be put into place in Arequipa

Public and private institutions with ties to the tourism sector will make up the Tourist Protection Network, which seeks to offer greater security to visitors. This network will be made up of establishments such as hotels, restaurants and taxi companies which meet the safety and protection requirements for national and foreign tourists.

Lighting improvements in touristic locations in Barranco

The mayor of Barranco, Antonio Mezarina, stated that the road works being carried out by his municipality will be complemented by an improvement in the lighting of the Plaza de Armas, the municipal library and the San Francisco church of that district. “We are going to light the most visited areas of our district in order to offer greater protection to the tourists who come in November for the APEC Summit,” he said.

New Daular airport is in its first stage

The air terminal will be 45 minutes from the city. The meteorological, surface and noise studies, as well as the airworthiness studies are ready for the construction of the new airport. The Daular air terminal will have three parallel runways with a capacity for 2,175 daily flights. The main runway will be 4,100 meters long by 60 m wide, while the other two be 3,500 meters long. The manager of the Guayaquil Airport Authority (AAG), stated that they are now analyzing the demarcation of the land according to the land uses determined by the Municipality. In the climate analysis by the Military Geographical Institute (IGM) an aerial photograph of Daular was taken.  

Holiday Inn Express to arrive in Bogota and Cartagena

In the area of the Parque de la 93, a business sector par excellence in Bogota, the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) will have its second national project. The first was a hotel in Medellin, which has been operational since last year. At the end of 2008, IHG will inaugurate its facilities within the business and hotel center, Oxo Center Bogota.  This enterprise will be complemented with the ultra modern offices of the business complex, which will have state of the art technology. In addition, the expansion plan foresees opening another site in Cartagena at the beginning of 2010.

New Theme Park to be built in 2009

Aqualand will be built with an investment of 70 billion pesos. This attraction will revolve around water (slides, pools, waterfalls and a slow river, among others), a hotel, bungalows and a stage similar to the Media Torta stage in Bogota. The touristic complex will be built on approximately 13.8 hectares on a plot of land adjacent to the El Eden airport. Construction is planned for the beginning of 2009.

Aeromexico arrives in Queretaro

As of September 1st, Aeromexico will begin operations in the International Airport of Queretaro (AIQ), offering a daily direct flight to the city of Monterrey. With this flight, passengers will be able to use the connections available in the “Sultan of the North” to cities in the United States, such as Detroit, Chicago and Las Vegas. They also have connections from Monterrey to Madrid and Barcelona.

Palace Group sets first phase of Riviera Cancun Golf & Resorts

The first phase of the Riviera Cancun Golf & Resorts complex, which is being developed by the Palace Group of the Chapur Zahoul brothers, was set after a US$ 60 million investment was made in development works. The complex, which is being built in Cancun’s hotel district, also includes a professional golf course and a club house, to which hotel projects will be added in the following phases, offering a total of 3,778 hotelier, tourism or condominium rooms.

Marriott inaugurates hotel in Aguadilla

The international hotel chain, Marriott, inaugurated its first hotel west of Puerto Rico, under the brand name Courtyard by Marriott, whose exact location is on the former Ramey base of Aguadilla. This facility had been abandoned and was operating as a small hospital. The building was renovated at a cost of US$ 30 million. The new hotel will provide more than 125 jobs and will have 150 rooms, a casino, restaurants and conference rooms.
