Aeroflot wants to capture the market

The airline’s General Manager for Latin America informed that Aeroflot will begin an ambitious plan for the modernization of its fleet and the international passenger service. He added that Aeroflot increased its air traffic from Russia to Latin America via La Habana, where it has connections with Copa Airlines. It foresees expanding from three to five the frequencies of its weekly flights to La Habana.

Aerolineas Argentinas purchases 40 aircrafts

Aerolineas Argentinas committed itself to include 40 Airbus aircraft to its fleet, among which are two A380, subject to the signing of a “five-year agreement” with the seven associations of the company. In the next few weeks, the company will also purchase 71 modern aircraft from the European company, with an investment of no less than US$ 3.000 million, as was also informed.

Buenos Aires was elected the “Best Touristic City of America” by the Conde Nast Traveler magazine.
LAN has new flights to the south
LAN Argentina started to operate the Buenos Aires-Ushuaia-Calafate route with four weekly frequencies.

Pluna would fly to Rosario and Cordoba

Pluna will shortly open the Montevideo-Rosario-Cordoba route. The passage would be carried out by the new Bombardier CRJ 900 aircraft whose arrival is expected in February 2008.

Delta Air Lines inaugurated offices in Asuncion

Delta Air Lines inaugurated commercial offices in Asuncion, appointing Aeromar as commercial representative in Paraguay. The new office is situated in the center of the capital to facilitate the access and the quick purchase of tickets for the Buenos Aires-Atlanta and San Pablo-Atlanta or New York routes.

Varig signs interline agreement with six foreign airlines

Varig already has interline agreements with Hahn Air (Germany), Malev (Hungary), El Al (Israel), Air One (Italy), Mexicana (Mexico) and Qatar Airways (Qatar).

BRA will launch a direct flight to Senegal in November
The Brasilian Ambassador announced that on November 8th, BRA will launch a weekly flight (every Thursday) direct from Recife to Dakar. A second weekly flight is under consideration and could be announced in the following months.
19th Tourism Festival in Gramado

Air Comet has a new route to Concepcion

Air Comet Chile announced its new route to Concepcion, its sixth national destination, whose inaugural flight will be on October 16th. In parallel form, the airline launched offers and promotions to strengthen the advance sale of tickets.

Proposes regulating tourist fees to National Areas

The government proposed regulating the established tourist entrance fees to the Protected National Areas that make up the National System of State Protected Natural Areas (SINANPE). The measure also includes the museums and properties which belong to the State’s Patrimonial Culture. Once said fees are established, they will come into effect in January, 2009.

Promotes investments of thermal tourist destinations
The “Posibilidades de Desarrollo Balneologico de las Aguas Termales y Minerales de Churin y Baños del Inca” Workshop took place. This seeks to gain the interest of private and public investors for the carrying out of projects which incorporate the thermal resource in the creation of new tourist products. The Deputy Minister of Tourism pointed out that with the international cooperation from the Czech Republic, MINCETUR and the Metal and Mining Geological Institute (INGEMMET), a joint effort is being carried out to modernize the use of the thermal waters in the country and include this resource in the development of new tourist products.
In Arequipa, tourist packages costs will increase because of lower dollar rates
The president of the Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies of Arequipa, informed that the costs of tourist packages will undergo an undefined increase because of the low dollar rate. The tourist attractions which are included in the mentioned increase would basically be the City Tour and the Colca Valley. The tourist trade evaluates the costs before determining the increase, however this will only be confirmed by the end of the year.
Temporary restriction in Tarapoto airport
The Tarapoto airport will be closed from October 12th to 31st, so landings and take-offs will only be carried out from 11.00 hrs to 17.20 hrs, therefore the airlines have had to reschedule their flights.
Inkaterrra invests more than US$ 2 million this year
The Inkaterra Group invests more than US$ 2 million this year in the construction of a boutique hotel in the center of Cuzco as informed by the President of the Group. The mentioned project consists of the redesigning of a colonial style house built in 1585, which is reconditioned maintaining its architectural style.

Eco Inn Cuzco opened its doors. The opening of the hotel is very important for the tourist sector because it will have an excellent “ecologically friendly” option for the four-star market.
Lufthansa Commits itself to considering resuming direct flights
The Minister of Production informed that Lufthansa has committed itself to seriously considering the possibility of resuming its direct flights to Peru, after it ceased to do so in 2002.
Galapagos will issue entrance cards that will control arrival of tourists

Galapagos announced that it will issue a Traffic Control Card for those that transport themselves or do tourism in their territory. The entry of tourists had lately exceeded itself, so this measure will limit the access to visitors, because the natural conservation of the islands has been affected.

LAN Ecuador will fly from Manta
As from November, Lan Ecuador will carry out some flights from Manta, since the Guayaquil airport will undergo reparations and maintenance during the weekends. The routes will be: Manta-Santiago, Manta-Buenos Aires, Manta-New York and the Manta-Madrid flights are still to be confirmed. There will be at least three or four flights each weekend in November and possibly the first weekend of December.
The construction of the Bogota Hilton begins

The construction of the Hilton Bogota-72 Gran Hotel, with an investment of US$ 50 million, will begin this weekend and expects to open its doors in October 2009. The chain studies the opening of other hotels in the country, in cities like Medellin and Cali and a second alternative in Bogota. In addition, the expansion of the Hilton Cartagena will end in a month. This will be the chain’s third hotel in the country, in addition to the one in Cartagena and the Embassy Suites of Bogota.

Livingston Air carried out its first flight

Livingston Air carried out its first flight to El Salvador on the 21st October. The Minister of Tourism confirmed that the flights will take place every Sunday, coming from the Malpensa International Airport in Milan.

Tourists that arrive in cruisers will have to pay US$ 5

According to federal law, all foreign tourists that arrive in Mexico on cruisers will have to pay a 56 pesos tax, which is equivalent to US$ 5, as from 2008.
