Whale-watching tourism will be promoted
Whale watching tourism promotes in coast populations the idea that, from an economic point of view, whales are worth more alive than dead, the director for Latin America of the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW). Almost 100 countries around the world promote watching-tourism and more than 10 million people participate in watching trips, generating an income of over US$ 1,000 million annually.
Sheraton acquires other two hotel chains
Starwood confirmed for 2008 the inauguration of the first Four Points in Puerto Madryn and announced that the domestic market has a potential for ten to fifteen hotels in that market segment. The facility will have 80 rooms and will be managed by Starwood group, while the investment will be charged to an investor group from Puerto Madryn.
A new passenger terminal will be built in Carrasco   American will increase flights to Montevideo
The International Airport of Carrasco will build a modern Passenger Terminal with an investment of US$ 134 million. Along with it, a platform for aircrafts will be built in order to carry out the boarding and disembarkation of passengers using telescopic aerobridges directly to the building. American Airlines in Buenos Aires announced that, starting from July, it will have daily flights from Montevideo to Miami with three weekly direct operations and four via Buenos Aires. Likewise, from mid November, five operations will become non-stop between Montevideo and Miami while the two remaining will be carried out from Buenos Aires.
GOL gives priority to Varig routes to Europe and Mexico
The resumption of operations to Europe and Mexico will be the priority of the new Varig traffic controller. GOL announced it entered into agreements in order to rent aircrafts to Boeing which will allow to carry out these flights. In Europe, Varig has landing and departure rights in Great Britain, Spain, France, Germany and Italy.
GOL entered into an agreement with Aerolineas Argentinas
Aerolineas Argentinas and GOL entered into an Add Ons agreement for domestic flights which will allow Aerolineas Argentina’s passengers to travel to the Brasilian destinations it usually does not fly to, and to GOL’s passengers to do the same within Argentina.
TAM changes luggage policy
Starting from May 1st, TAM will limit its passengers who fly from and to South America to take only 2 pieces of luggage with a maximum weight of 23 kilos each
American plans direct flights to North East
American Airlines might operate direct flights to the Brasilian North East. The airline plans to inaugurate a route uniting Miami with Bahia or Recife starting from 2008.
LAN plans to make direct connections between Arica and Arequipa or Cusco
Due to the tourist potential Arica has, LAN officers in this city indicated that the company is evaluating the project to make direct connections to Peruvian southern cities, especially Arequipa or Cusco.
Machu Picchu would not be declared in emergency
One of the four members of the special commission of Unesco, which performed fieldworks in Machu Picchu, informed that he considers the citadel to be well conserved.
Tourist lodge will be built in Paracas
In 6 months approximately, the hotel company Albergue Turistico San Agustin, of Peruvian and Spanish capital, will start the construction of a tourist lodge in the zone of "El Chaco La Puntilla". The new tourist lodge, which will be similar to the premises built in Spain, will have rooms, pools, restaurants, bar, rooms for different uses, balconies, gardens, parking, among other services. This lodge has been designed for tourists interested in the sea and wild fauna.
Spirit Airlines will cover Florida-Chiclayo route
The General Direction of Civil Aeronautics announced that the American airline Spirit is getting ready to receive the flight authorization to provide the service of regular passenger, cargo and mail transportation, on the routes Florida-Lima and Florida-Chiclayo. The authorities will grant Spirit up to ten weekly frequencies per route.

The Minister of Tourism of Ecuador has a clear position about this issue: to protect the Archipelago from any non sustainable activity. She said so after thanking UNESCO mission for its concern about Galapagos Islands.
Medellin inaugurates 4 hotels and leads tourist boom
The recovery of the tourist sector in this country is evidenced in the construction of new hotels, theme parks and convention centers. According to the Vice Minister of Tourism, the boom is general and goes from coast to coast in the country. The main capitals of department included the tourism sector into their competitiveness strategies.
Copa Airlines will fly to new destinations
Copa Airlines, subsidiary of Copa Holdings S.A, announced that it will offer new services from Panama and its connection cities in Latin America to Punta Cana and Washington starting from July 15th.
Aeromexico will inaugurate a new route
Starting from July 4, Aeromexico will start daily direct flights between Seattle and Mexico city, with direct connection to Guadalajara. The Vice President of Sales and Market from the American and Canadian division of the airline declared that Aeromexico will extend its service between USA and Mexico.
Delta Airlines extends it services
Delta Airlines plans to extend its services to this country starting with several non stop flights between Los Angeles and Tijuana and Zacatecas. Flights to Tijuana and from that border city to Los Angeles will start on June 7th and there will be 2 daily flights. Flights to Zacatecas will be carried out three times per week starting from June 8th.
Iberostar opens its eighth hotel
Iberostar Hotels & Resorts inaugurated its eight hotel in Mexico, the Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraiso, a luxurious five-star facility located in the Paraiso Beach, between Cancun and Playa del Carmen, surrounded by spacious gardens including three pools, one with salty water, one covered and conditioned and a fresh water lake.
