21 Latin American hotels among the 100 best hotels in the world

21 Latin American hotels are included in the ranking of the 100 best hotels in the world. This ranking was prepared by Expedia, based on a survey carried out on its clients. The Caribbean has eight hotels among the 100 best ones; South America, two and Central America, one.

Outstanding South American Executive appointed as Regional Coordinator of IGLTA

During the World Convention carried out last May in Montreal, Canada, the “International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association” (IGLTA) chose a Latin American professional as coordinator for South America. As part of the growth of the IGLTA’s sales team worldwide, Ylan Chrem, an outstanding Peruvian professional with a successful career in Peruvian and American tourism has been appointed for the position.

Aerolineas incorporates new aircraft

Aerolineas Argentinas incorporated a new Boeing 737/500 to its fleet. This is the first aircraft of seven aircrafts that the company has planned to incorporate this year. The aircraft will be used in cabotage and regional flights.

Air reincorporation
Aerolineas Argentinas/Austral announced its return to the Latin American Travel Association, an organization that gathers 35 companies from Latin America and the Caribbean. The general manager of Aerolineas and the executive director of ALTA declared that their priority is to improve the efficiency, security and profitability of the companies.
Ribera Sur Hotel inaugurated in San Telmo
The historical neighborhood of San Telmo has a new hotel, the Ribera Sur Hotel, located in the old part of town and at just two blocks away from Dorrego Square.
Works in the route of wine
Bodegas Goyenechea started an extension of its facilities in San Rafael, with an investment of US$ 300,000 for the construction of a tasting room. This is aimed at allowing tourists to better enjoy their wine experience in the south of the province, after a trip through the whole "route of wine". The inauguration will be in September.

Negotiates more flights with Spain

Brasil and Spain negotiate an extension of the bilateral agreements which will allow airlines from both countries to increase frequencies. Currently, there are 37 frequencies for each country (14 to the northeast and 23 to the southeast of Brasil), from which Iberia uses 17 to the southeast (Sao Paulo and Rio) and Air Europa 3 or 4, depending on the season, to both regions.

GOL and Aerolineas Argentinas enter into a commercial agreement
Gol entered into a ticket sales agreement with Aerolineas Argentinas. Aerolineas Argentinas clients will be able to buy, through the Argentinean company and its agencies network, tickets for the 58 destinations operated by GOL in its country and in South America.
will promote Titicaca Lake as a natural wonder along with Peru

Peru and Bolivia will promote Titicaca Lake, located in both countries, as one of the seven natural wonders of the world. The decision was taken after a meeting held in La Paz where the pool of Municipalities of the Central Pacific Region was created. This organization is composed by the border municipalities of Bolivia, Chile and Peru.

 
Tourist entrance to Machu Picchu will be divided into two sectors

A technical study will allow to divide the Inca ruins into two different sectors. The possibility of increasing the visit ticket fee has not been considered by the officers in charge. On the contrary, they will be sold as two products with a price of US$ 40, which will allow to obtain 50% more revenues for the region. The first sector will be the part considered as panoramic, where people can take pictures, and the second sector, the one considered as the religious part.

Candidates to nature wonders are proposed
Regional tourism authorities recommended the candidacy of Manu and Huascaran national parks, the Tambopata and Paracas reserves, the Alpamayo snowcapped peak, the Amazonas River and the Titicaca Lake for the Seven Natural Wonders of the World contest. The nominations of the new wonders will continue until August 8, 2008. Starting from that date, experts will create a list of 21 candidates.
BIT PERU 2007’s presentation was held in Santiago de Chile
With the participation of some of the most important operators and wholesalers, as well as travel agents, hotels and service companies, BIT Peru 2007 Luxury Collection & Incentives’ presentation was carried out last Thursday in the Embassy of Peru. The event was supported by Sky Airline.

New fees in Quito airport

Starting from August 1st, the new increases of the airport service fees for this year will be valid at Mariscal Sucre airport. According to Quiport Corporation, with this adjustment the departing fee for foreign passengers will be US$ 40.80 (the international departure is US$ 32.90, US$ 1.35 for traffic and air control, US$ 1.55 for firefighters and rescue activities, and US$ 5 for the Civil Aviation Direction). For domestic passengers, the cost is US$ 7.60, which is included in the ticket.

Tourist permits to visit Galapagos will be established
The director of the Galapagos National Park announced that this organism will establish a maximum number of tourist visits for the Sea Reserve of the Islands. The technical committee of the Galapagos National Institute analysed the delivery of these visit permissions, for which a special regulation should be written. The common goal of participants to the meeting was to set technical criteria with regards to establishing a maximum number of permissions for sport fishing, special tours and diving, although the amount of permits was not mentioned.
Barranquilla with ‘open skies‘

The National Government declared Barranquilla as a tourist destination, which means that as from today, it will be an open skies city. This implies that the airport of Barranquilla will be able to receive any number of operators, from any country, without aircraft restrictions and with the number of frequencies they deem appropriate.

Avianca and Satena signed a code sharing agreement in order to offer more and better services to their passengers.
New charter flight to Dominican Republic

24 charter flights will depart from Venezuela to the Dominican Airport of El Catey, in Samana. Each of these flights, of Laser airline, will transport 116 passengers.

Starting from September Hilton will be Hotel Alba
Starting from September 1st and under the name of Hotel ALBA Caracas, the Centro Simon Bolivar (CSB) will assume the operative and administrative control of the building it owns, which is managed by the Hilton chain since 1968.
Enrique Malek airport is a new destination for tourists

The different airlines that carry out international flights to Central America are considering the possibility of including Enrique Malek airport, located in the city of David, Panama, as a destination to carry and bring passengers. Due to this reason, the air terminal is being renewed.

Copa with direct flights from Cordoba
By mid August, the four weekly frequencies that Copa Airlines will have between the airport of Cordoba, Argentina, and the City of Panama will be implemented.
Taca Airlines launches new frequencies

Taca Airlines increased its flights from San Jose de Costa Rica to Guatemala, Cuba and Dominican Republic. The new flights were inaugurated in order to improve the connection between Central America and the Caribbean and to extend the offer of air services for its clients.

Holiday Inn Express lands in Zapopan

The municipality of Zapopan, in the state of Jalisco, will have a hotel of the Holiday Inn Express chain, with 100 rooms and which will imply an investment higher than US$ 11 million. The hotel is aimed at business travelers. Its construction will take 18 months approximately.

Aerocaribbean starts operations in Honduras

Aerocaribbean started operations in Honduras, with a direct flight from Tegucigalpa to Havana. Honduras will be the second nation in the Central American region where the airline will operate.
