ARGENTINA Six cruises arrived in Buenos Aires
Six cruises arrived simultaneously in Buenos Aires with more than 10,000 passengers coming mainly from the USA, Europe and Brasil. The Argentinean cruise season 2006-2007 started last October 15th and will last until early April. 54 of the 91 ships expected for this season have arrived, and brought more than 105,000 passengers and around 48,000 crew members.
CHILE LAN still evaluates its participation in Nueva Varig
LAN is still evaluating the possibility of participating in the ownership of Nueva Varig and is not likely to decide soon, announced the Finance Vice President of LAN. LAN granted credit up to US$ 17 million to Nueva Varig which is convertible into the shares of Nueva Varig.
New flights of LAN between Santiago and Montevideo
Starting from March 24th, LAN Airlines will offer two new flights between Montevideo (Uruguay) and Santiago de Chile. A flight on Thursdays and another on Saturdays will be added to its usual operation. These flights will use the Airbus 320 aircraft, except on Sundays, when a Boeing 767/300ER aircraft is used.
BRASIL Iberostar inaugurates a golf club in Salvador de Bahia
The Iberostar Hotels & Resorts chain inaugurated the Iberostar Praia do Forte Golf Club, an 18-holes golf field located at Iberostar Praia do Forte resort, in Salvador de Bahia. This field is suitable for golf players of any level and it offers white sand dunes and “spectacular” panoramic views of the Ocean.
Varig expects to enter into an agreement with LAN in June
LAN may become a shareholder of Nueva Varig in June, the president of the Brasilian airline stated. "The interest of LAN in Varig is strategic: flights may be offered from Brasil to the world through operation agreements, it would be a great operation synergy", he also said.
BOLIVIA LAB reschedules flights abroad due to lack of fuel
Due to the lack of fuel, LAB was forced to reschedule its flights abroad. LAB’s regional manager assured that the company will assume all the corresponding expenditures.
AeroSur aims at stocking up with fuel in international airports
In order not to affect the normal compliance of its itinerary, the airline has been forced to carry out technical stopovers in other countries in order to supply its aircrafts with fuel. LAB has also done it before.
PERU Looks for connecting the country with Australia and China by air
The Minister of the sector informed that they are looking for connecting Peru with new countries in the Pacific, such as Australia, China and New Zealand, by air, so that Peru becomes more attractive as a tourist destination.

PromPeru announced its participation in the Addison Travel Marketing-Series III to be held in Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa.
Airport of Huaraz restarted commercial flights
The airport Gerardo Arias Graziani of Anta-Huaraz restarted commercial flights between this city and Lima with the arrival of the aircraft LC Busre, which has been awarded the license to operate the flights to callejón de Huaylas (Alley of Huaylas). Flights will be daily in a Metro Liner III aircraft, with a capacity for 19 passengers.
ECUADOR Air Comet carried out its first flight from Madrid
Air Comet operated its first flight between Madrid and Ecuador in virtue of the agreement entered into with the Ministry of Promotion after Air Madrid’s closure. The company pointed out that it will operate three times per week starting from April 1st.
COLOMBIA Organizes Tourism Macro Conference in Anato
Proexport expects the attendance of around 400 foreign and local entrepreneurs. Last year 140 foreign purchasers had 2,875 meetings and the projections for this year are 3,200 meetings. So far, 187 foreign purchasers and 184 local vendors have been registered.
Decameron inaugurates second stage of its main beach hotel
Decameron Salinitas inaugurated the second stage of its main beach hotel in the country. With an investment of US$ 7 million, the new stage of the hotel comprises the extension of 60 rooms.
Avianca offers a new auto-check in system
Avianca implemented a luggage registration and packaging system in the auto-check modules at the Terminal Puente Aereo of Bogota. Besides checking in, choosing a seat and accumulating miles, passengers may obtain their luggage tickets in the same operation.
CENTRAL AMERICA Will have US$ 2’600,000 to develop tourism
Central American countries (Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama) will have US$ 2’600,000 to develop tourism projects. The new website specialized in Central America tourism is planned to be launched in April.
PANAMA Intercontinental begins construction of the Holiday Inn Panama Canal
The hotel company IHG announced the beginning of construction works of the Holiday Inn Panama Canal. The hotel, with 115 rooms, will be located in the surroundings of the inter-oceanic channel. The construction of the new hotel will be finished in early 2008.
GUATEMALA Accor inaugurated hotel
Accor Hotels committed itself with Guatemala, since its first hotel was opened in a very active area of the capital. The manager of the Hotel Mercure Casa Veranda explained that the intention of the group is that the country becomes the “spearhead” and a strategic operation center for the subsequent development towards the rest of countries in the region.
COSTA RICA First Choice Airways inaugurates direct flight from London in May
The British airline First Choice Airways will inaugurate in May a direct flight between the Gatwick airport in London and the Daniel Oduber in the Northern Pacific of Costa Rica. The airline will offer the service during vacation season in England, which finishes in October.
MEXICO Quintana Roo is ready to receive tourists
With the complete reconstruction of the destinations in the north of Quintana Roo -among them Cancun and the Mayan Riviera-, the Mexican Caribbean is ready to receive around 10 million of visitors in 2007. The state has an offer of 66,512 hotel rooms -the most important in the country-,of which 27 thousand operate in Cancun and more than 30 thousand in the Mayan Riviera.
Occidental will invest US$ 600 million
The Occidental Hotels and Resorts chain plans to begin new projects in 2008. Besides its foray in the Pacific, the chain has an investment plan of about US$ 500 to US$ 600 millions. The project includes the construction of two new hostage centers of the Royal Hideaway brand, one in the Mayan Riviera and the other in Los Cabos, besides the remodelling of the hotel that operates in Cancun.
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC Increased tourist tax
The Ministry of Tourism announced a millionaire investment in tourist infrastructure works. For this reason, the tax charged to passengers arriving in the country in regular and charter flights was increased from US$ 5 to US$ 8. The increase will be in force starting from May in order not to modify the cost of tourist packages that have been sold for this season.
