Costa Cruceros introduced 2007/2008 season
Costa Cruceros executives announced the arrival of three ships in the region for this summer. Costa Victoria in Argentina, Costa Magica in Brasil and Costa Classica alternating between both countries, will be the main stars of what the company calls “The Diamond Season 2007-2008”. This will represent 50% more activity in relation to this summer.
Buenos Aires, preferred city for gay tourism   Lan Argentina will increase by 50% its offer of routes in 2007
Buenos Aires increasingly attracts gay tourism. This year, the first five-star hotel in the continent for the gay community was inaugurated in the capital. According to unofficial estimations gay tourism represents 20% of the visitors the city receives. Lan Argentina wants to close 2007 with 50% more in the offer of routes and new destinations. This plan includes adopting some aspects of the low cost model, system which is competing with giant airlines in the region.

Mexicana de Aviacion will arrive in Asuncion
The few operations registered in the International Airport of Asuncion, Paraguay, could be stimulated by the arrival of Mexicana de Aviacion. Although the operations are authorized by both nations, the date of the inauguration flight is unknown.
Gol began to sell tickets to Lima
Gol began to sell tickets to Lima. The company will have two daily direct flights, one departing from Sao Paulo and another from Santiago de Chile. Lima will be the eighth international destination of Gol, which already flies to Buenos Aires, Rosario and Cordoba (Argentina), Montevideo (Uruguay), Asuncion (Paraguay), Santa Cruz de la Sierra (Bolivia) and Santiago (Chile).
Iberostar will operate one of the most prestigious hotels in Rio de Janeiro
Iberostar Hotels & Resorts will operate from February 1st one of the most prestigious hotels of Copacabana: a five-star hotel, known as the tallest hotel in Rio de Janeiro, which will be named Iberostar Copacabana.
Arrival of cruise passengers will increase by 5% in 2007   Aerolineas del Sur will fly to Buenos Aires and Lima
The general manager of Destination Mana-gement Chile (DMC) – company which attends 70% of the cruise passengers that arrive in Chile- explained that in recent years almost 20 cruise companies from the entire world arrived in the country. In the 2005-2006 season, DMC registered 120 arrivals and 19 boardings of passengers. For this season, the company expects to receive 126 arrivals, which implies an increase of 5%.

The new CEO of the company assured that Aerolineas del Sur will fly to Buenos Aires and Lima before the first four months of the year.“We want to grow by 25% in passenger transportation compared to 2006, to reach an occupation rate of 71%. We are not only looking for consolidation, but we want to make this company something different, an outstanding service” he declared.

AeroSur presented new Boeing 731-200
AeroSur presented its new Boeing 737-200 which will reinforce its services in the routes Santa Cruz-Buenos Aires and Santa Cruz-San Pablo. The aircraft will be added to the six 727-200 and the four 737-200, besides the aircrafts flying to Madrid and Miami.
Will promote destinations in fairs of United Kingdom and Spain
In February, PromPeru will participate in international tourism fairs which will be carried out in the United Kingdom and Spain. The first one is the International Tourism Fair Destinations Show 2007 which will be held in London from February 1st to February 4th. PromPeru will also participate in Fitur 2007 from January 31st to February 4th, in Madrid.
IH&RA Board of directors meeting will be held in Lima
The International Hotel & Restaurants Association -IH&RA-, the most important hotel and restaurant association in the world-, will hold on March 22nd and 23rd its board of directors meeting in Lima.
Taca increases flights to Sao Paulo
In February Taca offers two additional flights in its Lima-Sao Paulo route, doubling its departures on Wednesday and Fridays. The offer of seats and flights increases almost by 30%, with a total of nine weekly flights.
Hotel Plaza Grande, one of the most luxurious in South America
With an investment of US$ 5.5 million in two years, the construction of the republican-style Hotel Boutique in Quito was finished. This hotel has infrastructure standards and services which surpass any concept of a five-star hotel. It is located in the property where 64 years ago the famous and legendary Hotel Majestic was inaugurated.
Tourism business meetings start
On February 27th and 28th the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism and Proexport Colombia will carry out the first business meeting of the year, aimed at the tourism sector. Tourism in Cartagena grew by air and sea
During 2006, 530,623 passengers arrived in the Airport of Cartagena from domestic destinations and 86,370 from international destinations. That same year, several cruise lines arrived to the city with 42,024 passengers.
Coffee plantation zone consolidates as tourist attraction
The coffee plantation zone in the west of Colombia received 220,000 tourists during this year vacation period. Almost 150,000 visitors lodged in coffee plantations, which were adapted for agro-tourism activities in the last 10 years. The region offers rural hotels, diversity of humid zones, ecological walks, thematic parks and extreme sports.
Conjoint promotion
Panama is studying the possibility to create tourist packages together with Dominican Republic and Costa Rica, which would be aimed at tourists from Europe and Asia, the Panamanian Minister declared.
Will participate in European fairs
El Salvador confirmed its participation in Fitur (Spain), Bit de Milan (Italy) and ITB (Germany). The minister of Tourism, Ruben Rochi, will lead the Salvadorian delegations.
Bets on submarine tourism
J.R. Llerena & Asociados created and designed the Nautilius project, first official diving guide of the Dominican Republic. This project is aimed at promoting the natural and archeological submarine attractions of Dominican Republic as well as the most complete Diving Center of Insular Caribbean Sea.
La Romana will have a new luxury tourist resort
The Dominican Republic will have a new tourist complex – luxury property in La Romana, called Los Altos, which second stage of construction will start in June with an investment of over US$ 75 million.
Winter tourism promoted   Old Mexico Hotel reopened
This winter, Baja California has a great variety of alternatives for family entertainment. The Secretary of Domestic Tourism listed some of the places which can be visited for tourism purposes in this season of low temperatures. The Constitucion National Park, the Sierra de San Pedro Martir National Park, the Guadalupe Canyon, and Los Angeles bay are some of them.

A year and a half and € 6 million is the investment for the purchase and complete restoration of the old Mexico Hotel, which reopened under the name of Abba Santander. This hotel is part of the Abba chain, which has another 22 hotels (two of them in London and Andorra) and soon will open others in Paris, Berlin, Bratislava, Huesca and Granada.

Taca will inaugurate a new direct flight in February
Taca will inaugurate on February 2nd its direct flight between San Jose de Costa Rica and Havana which will replace the one currently operating between El Salvador and the Cuban capital. This flight will favor the connections between Cuba and the region as well as with South America.
