With the recent
incorporation of a new A340/300
and another one which would
be included in November,Aerolineas
Argentinas could resume its
direct flights to Paris at the
end of the year. |

first apart-hotel of the region
which is exclusive for gays and
lesbians, is a unique undertaking
in Cuyo and one of the few existent
in the country. It has opened
its doors as from this week and
hopes to capitalize a tourist

| El Catedral having
the best season of the decade |
| Thanks to the
heavy snowfalls since June and
frost that keeps the snow in optimum
conditions for skiing and snowboarding,
Cerro Catedral, in Bariloche is
having an excellent season. The
best is expected for September,

low season prices, which are “40%

commercial director of Air Canada
informed that the possibility
of the airline including Rio
de Janeiro in its flights to
Brasil is being studied, as

and Sao Paulo daily with a Boeing
767-300. |
| GOL recommends
vaccination against yellow fever |
| GOL informed that
passengers with Peru, Bolivia
or Panama as final destination,
which enter Brasil during their
connection, have to present, on
the boarding day, the International
Vaccination Certificate, proving
the vaccinating against Yellow
Fever, with a minimum of ten days.
The rule does not apply to children
less than nine-months old, pregnant
women and passengers with a vaccine
exemption certificate. |

million to resume operations |
LAB will shortly
receive an initial down payment
from the Swiss Transatlantic
Corp. company to boost the renewal
of operations. The airline will
count upon a capital input of
US$ 6.4 million. |

aircraft and destinations |
| AeroSur is preparing
to celebrate its 15th anniversary
on the 24th August, foreseeing
the incorporation of 2 new aircraft
to its fleet of 15 Boeing and
2 Airbus this month, its president
informed. It involves a Boeing
737 and 727 for 108 and 150 passengers,
respectively. |

| Tourist infrastructure
almost unharmed |
As a consequence
of last week´s seismic
movement, the tourist infrastructure,
except for the Paracas Libertador
Hotel that was completely damaged,
only suffered minor damage in
general. The Mossone Hotel had
to be closed for fifteen days,
until its complete restoration.
The Panamericana Sur highway
has stretches with limited traffic,
but it is not blocked. |
| Nazca Lines were
not affected |
| According to the
National Institute of Culture,
the famous Nazca Lines, one of
the main tourist attractions of
the Ica region, have not been
affected by the earthquake. In
spite of the magnitude of the
incident, the commercial airline
companies that handle the flyovers
of the geoglifos, continue operating
regularly. |
| History Channel
filmed documentary on Kuelap fortress |
| The History Channel
completed the filming on the archaeological
areas in La Petaca, province of
Chachapoyas for the documentary
that it will broadcast on the
Kuelap fortress. The provincial
mayor led the expedition from
Leymebamba up to the Tajopampa
area. The documentary, that is
part of the series named “Searching
for the truth” (Buscando
la verdad), will be broadcasted
between September and October
of 2008, to be seen by 220 million
families worldwide. |
| Star Peru will
fly to Puerto Maldonado |
| In the middle
of October, Star Peru will begin
its flights to Puerto Maldonado,
extending its nationwide coverage.
It also recently included a third
daily flight, without stopovers
to Cuzco. |

in world ranking |
Travel and
Leisure informed the Minister
of Tourism of Ecuador that for
the second time, the magazine
awarded the Galapagos Island´s
recognition as one of the tourist
destinations with the most ranking
in the world. The selection
was made by the magazine´s
lectors in the framework of
the competition that this magazine
organizes for the awarding of
the 2007 best awards. The islands
were also chosen as the best
in the region of Mexico, Central
and South America. |

Ecuador Travel Exposition 2007”
will take place from the 24th

| NH will construct
two hotels |
A Canarian
company will construct two five-star
hotels in Bogota for which it
signed a business contract with
the NH chain, which, in this
way, begins its expansion in
this country. The construction
of the first hotel will begin
in January 2008 and will be
situated in the area known as
Parque de la 93 “one of
the most exclusive areas of
the Colombian capital, with
embassies, restaurants and shopping
centers”, according to
information sources. |
| Royal Caribbean
in Cartagena |
| As from December
2008, Colombians will be able
to embark on a cruise from Cartagena,
the president of Royal Caribbean
announced. The itinerary of the
“Enchantment of the Seas”
will begin in Colon (Panama) and
will later stop in Cartagena.
The cruiser will complete the
seven-day route (the program will
last 16 weeks) in the Santa Maria,
Aruba, Bonaire and Curazao ports. |

in October, Costa Rica expects
to register a 74% traffic increase,

City will try to take away from
Buenos Aires the title of “mecca”
of gay tourism in Latin America.
Last year, more than 160.000
tourists from the LGTB community
visited the capital of Mexico,
which represents 25% of the
total of visitors. To achieve
this aim, the secretariat of
Tourism became a member of the
International Gay-Lesbian Tourism
Association (IGLTA). |

routes to Honduras, Nicaragua
and Guatemala |
| AeroMexico informed
that it has commenced new routes
to Central America. San Pedro
de Sula in Honduras, Managua in
Nicaragua and its most recent
destination, Guatemala. This opening
is in addition to the recent flights
that AeroMexico offers to Narita,
Japan and Seattle, United States. |

|
In
a recent trip to Chile, among
other things, to revisit Santiago,
Puerto Mont and Puerto Varas
– where I hadn’t
gone more than 12 years ago
– and I traveled to Puerto
Natales and Torres del Paine
for the first time. I also visited
hotels, not only to see those
hotels recently remodeled, but
especially to know some of the
new businesses.
I was especially impressed
by two new hotels: the flamboyant
Melia Patagonia, in Puerto Varas,
and the brand new Remota, in
Puerto Natales. READ
