winter tourism exhibition launched
|
| The Department
of Tourism inaugurated the Winter
Tourism Exhibition (ETI), which
will be held on May 12th to 14th
in La Rural Fair of Buenos Aires.
This year, the 3dr ETI looks for
consolidating all winter tourist
offers nationwide. |
| Hotusa purchases
five star hotel in Puerto Iguazu |
| Hotusa confirmed
the purchase of a five star hotel
in Puerto Iguazu. This is the
second investment carried out
by this group in Argentina, after
the purchase in September of the
75% of the shareholding of the
traditional Claridge Hotel in
Buenos Aires, an investment which
implied US$ 12 million. Cataratas
Hotel has 130 rooms, two halls
with a capacity for 270 people
and three presidential suites. |
| TAM flies from
Cordoba to Sao Paulo |
| TAM Mercosur carried
out the first flight between Cordoba
and Sao Pablo. The flight will
have a stopover in Ciudad del
Este, in Paraguay. The route will
be served initially by Fokker
100 aircrafts, with a capacity
for 108 passengers in a single
class. |

for air shuttle service (Carrasco-Aeroparque),

Leadgate has prepared for this
airline. In the second stage of
this plan, customers will be able
to buy tickets via the internet
for other destinations to which
the airline flies. In a third
stage, tickets will be bought
for flights which include other
companies. |
Pluna rented
a Lockhead TriStar aircraft which
started to fly to Spain since
last Saturday. This is due to
the fact that the Boeing 767 covering
this route will be under maintenance.
Likewise, the airline is making
progress in the purchase of a
Boeing 737 to LAN Chile which
will be used as fleet support. |

is authorized to fly to Venezuela |
| TAM was authorized
by the Civil Aviation National
Agency to start flying to Caracas.
The new round trip route between
the international airport of Sao
Paulo and Maiquetia will have
a stopover in Manaus. The flight,
which will have a daily frequency,
will have to start operations
within six months. |

Travel Distribution Summit |
| On June 14th and
15th, the Second Latin American
Travel Distribution Summit will
be held in Brasil. This summit
will gather professionals from
the tourist sector who cover Latin
American and Caribbean destinations
to discuss about distribution
issues, technologies needed for
a successful performance and strategic
alliances for the near future.

fly to Sao Paulo |
| Starting from
June 17th, Air China will fly
twice per week from Peking to
Sao Paulo, with a stopover in
Madrid, with an Airbus A-330 aircraft. |

to complete acquisition process
of Varig |
| GOL was authorized
by the National Civil Aviation
Agency of Brasil to complete the
purchase of Varig. Thus, GOL will
be able to start the development
plan for Varig, which will be
operated under its own brand and
with different services as the
low cost business model of GOL
is incorporated. |

for more flights |
| TAP was authorized
by the National Civil Aviation
Agency to increase its flights
to Brasil by 13 new frequencies.
With this, TAP will start to fly,
starting from July, to Brasilia
and will increase the offer to
Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. |

will increase flights from Madrid
in 2008 |
| LAN plans to
increase daily non-stop flights
departing from Madrid, so that
in the latter part of 2008 these
have Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Argentina

Madrid-Lima in July with a frequency
of three times per week. Likewise,
they plan to incorporate a seventh
weekly departure to Guayaquil. |

will build a hotel in Punta Sal
beach resort |
| The Korianka Hotel
aims at being one of the best
hotels in the city of Trujillo,
since it is located in the historical
downtown of the city, the Hotel
Manager said. The hotel offers
several comforts such as Wireless
Internet service, pool, conditioned
suites and Jacuzzis, and a cafe
- bar. |
The Colombian
chain Decameron will build a hotel
in the Punta Sal (Tumbes) beach
resort. In this sense, it will
enter into an agreement with the
Colombian construction company
Colpatria in order to build the
facilities. The project will imply
an investment of US$ 14 million. |

| May
halt tourism to the Galapagos |
| Ecuador has declared
the Galapagos Islands at risk
and could temporarily suspend
tourism permits and enforce rigorous
population restrictions to prevent
further environmental harm. The
director of UNESCO’s World
Heritage Center warned last month
of the threats to the flora and
fauna of the “fragile and
delicate” volcanic island
chain. A United Nations delegation
is visiting the islands to determine
whether the World Heritage site
should be officially declared
“in danger”. |

will be charged to foreign tourists
|
|
Aires
Aruba will start operations in
second half of 2007 |
| The Vice-Minister
of Tourism announced that a tax
of US$ 5 will be charged to foreigners
who travel to the country by air
and that the charge will be in
force when the publishing of the
law has been fulfilled. The law
was passed last March 30th. |
Colombian Aires
Branch plans to enter into the
Caribbean market. For this purpose,
it is making the arrangements
to obtain the necessary permits
from the aeronautic authorities
from both countries. The company,
which is renewing its fleet, plans
to have 11 new Dash 8-300 and
200 aircrafts. With this equipment,
they expect to serve the routes
from Aruba to The Dominican Republic,
Curaçao, Colombia, Panama,
Venezuela and Cuba. |

by 650,000 |
| Costa Rica plans
to end year 2007 with an increase
of 650,000 seats in flights coming
from abroad and which will be
added to the 2.2 million offered
